SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
It is the intention of Sanyati Holdings Limited to continue with its social responsibility initiatives. Emphasis will always be on the previously disadvantaged communities as well as communities that live in the areas where we are working.
It is quite interesting to highlight some of the following projects that have been undertaken.
- We continue to provide water, free of charge, to the community members that live close to our Asphalt Plant at Brisk at Verulam.
- We have further fenced up the residence of the community living close to our Asphalt Plant. Fencing has addressed the safety aspect especially for children and domestic animals belonging to the community.
Meetings are held on a monthly basis with the Brisk Community, through their Representative Committee, and in these meetings we continue to explore other possible projects. To date we have agreed on building the crèche as our next project.
- Bursaries have been provided to four civil engineering technicians who successfully completed their diplomas in civil engineering.
- Amashova Right On The Night Project – Brisk started the construction phase of phase of the project, which involves the construction of a 400m mini-cycle road safety track at the eThembini School for the partially disabled and visually impaired that will incorporate all normally road conditions as a road awareness learning environment for junior school learners throughout the KZN region.
The project was officially inducted at the opening ceremony in July and will be completed by the end of September so that it can be co-ordinated with the annual Amashovashova bicycle race between Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
- An exciting program is also run by one of our subsidiaries where employees are encouraged and financially assisted with the testing and management of HIV/AIDS. This project is called ITHEMBA (meaning HOPE). Employees are encouraged to do voluntary testing and attend treatment for HIV/AIDS accordingly. The ITHEMBA Project also extends to family members.
- Our Piling and Geotechnical subsidiary is also involved in the monthly donations to the StarFish Baby Home. These donations are used, by the home, for the purchase of food and toiletries vital to the temporary care of babies that are found abandoned, willingly given up for adoption, or removed from abusive or unsafe situations.
- Shongweni Creche
Sanyati Building are constructing 2 new blocks within the Vula Mehlo crèche (Shongweni Crech), which is run by Mrs. Dudu Mhkize .The first block comprising an Office , Kitchen and Activity Room , and the second comprising a Sleeping Room and Homework Room .
