Originally established as a construction and plant hire company, it has evolved into an organization skilled in providing cost effective broad-based Civil Engineering solutions that has earned its place in the industry as a viable, reputable, ethical and financially sound construction company.

Afriscan Construction (Pty) Ltd has comprehensive experience in the following activities:

• BULK EARTHWORKS & ROAD CONSTRUCTION
  Afriscan undertakes a wide range of earthworks contracts, large and small. The company has vast experience in the construction of major and minor roads.
  
  
• PIPELINES & ASSOCIATED WORKS
  The company has completed numerous pipeline projects, including water, sewer and storm water contracts. These projects included township infrastructure, bulk pipelines, dams, weirs, reservoirs, irrigation schemes, pump stations, gabion river protection and flash flood retention dams in Southern Africa. A wealth of experience has also been accumulated in sewerage settlement tank construction, industrial/domestic effluent stabilisation ponds and a variety of sewer reticulation systems.
  
  
• TOWNSHIP INFRASTRUCTURE
  Afriscan has comprehensive experience and resources to undertake township infrastructure construction, greenfields and insitu upgrades.

A critical success factor of the company has been the recognition of community involvement and participation on all our contracts. Communities are consulted and informed on a regular basis. Wherever possible, skilled and unskilled workers are employed from the local communities.

GEM Earthworks was formed in 1997 by Gerhard van Schalkwyk, a professional engineer with 13 years contracting experience, and has grown into a company that is fast becoming an active entity in the contracting world.

The company is comprised of a team of dynamic, motivated and qualified people including professional engineers and project managers, whose experience includes mining, bridge and structural concrete, road works and many other activities, covering most in the general scope of civil engineering contracting. With a permanent staff compliment of 65 people the company and it’s experience gained on contracts both within the borders of South Africa as well as numerous cross the borders provides an ideal and flexible trading partner.

GEM Earthworks has a sound base of core plant and has an understanding and an agreement with Barlows to supplement plant as and when required.
