People
Efficiency plays a vital part in the business and Sanyati Central’s employees are regarded as the key to unlocking the potential of the company, and are the reason for its success. The division’s philosophy is to ensure that the team functions as a family where each of its members is of equal importance.
Sanyati Central’s core strength is its ability to combine motivated teams consisting of civil, structural and electrical resources to ensure the successful completion of projects ranging from greenfields to maintenance projects anywhere on the African continent.
The division is innovative and incisive in meeting client needs as well as enjoying a positive relationship with the relevant consulting teams.
Plant and Logistics
Plant as an asset requires that it is managed professionally to ensure that it remains profitable and that the asset value is retained over the economic life span of the particular equipment.
The main focus of the Plant and Logistics Division is to provide the group’s different divisions (internal clients) with correct and functional plant, enabling them to complete projects within budget and on time.
The plant consists of over 260 units that include normal and specialist construction equipment, and operates as a normal commercial business unit that rents equipment at market-related rates to the various different projects within Sanyati.
Enterprise development
Sanyati Central is actively involved in a variety of BEE Contractors programmes in the division where emerging black contractors are given the opportunity to partner with the group on various projects. These ventures aim to realise the country’s full economic potential and follows a pragmatic growth strategy.
Numerous contractor development projects have failed in the past, and continue to fail, due to the emerging contractor not being prepared for the market environment and failing to successfully obtain further work on his own.
The key for the successfull implementation of any BEE Contractors programme is based on the following:
- Value added
- Economic viability
- Sustainability
The following framework plan has been put in place at Sanyati Central to mitigate as far as possible the pitfalls in the industry:
- Break-Out Packages
These packages focus on small sub-contract work where the selected emerging contractor is put into a pre-determined and agreed programme and time frame, resulting in the sustainable development of such a contractor. - Conventional Packages
The conventional packages are the least difficult to implement and should almost happen naturally as dictated by the market place and emerging contractors’ desire to take part in a joint venture.
Operational Units
Roads and Earthworks
This business unit aims to provide full service solutions covering three main areas across the broad spectrum of road and earth works construction value chain.
Roads and earthworks form the backbone of the unit’s engineering activities and have completed various projects successfully varying from telecommunication access roads, normally in difficult geographical conditions, large platforms for the mining industry and conventional roads that form part of the national roads network. Clients include SANRAL, provincial and local government, private sector clients such as Vodacom and MTN, as well as some large mining companies.
Surfacing
This unit’s expertise spans the full range of bituminous surfacing technology and provides the right combination of surfacing for each required application in this specialised field of knowledge. Support to clients includes technical advice relating to the bituminous surfacing industry as well as services ranging from design to construction and maintenance.
Electrical
Sanyati specializes in Total Turnkey Solutions-Design, Construct and Commission in the Power Line construction industry. It all started when Sanyati engaged with ABB and became a Sub Contractor for the Power Line Construction - EDM (Electricidade de Mozambique)Project- North to South of Maputo.
Sanyati's main task was to install 6 500 pre-stressed concrete masts for the Power Line. Operating in poor infrastructure conditions and support, Sanyati had to deploy specialized equipment to accommodate distribution of the pre-stressed concrete masts during the installation process. Specialized vehicles were constructed to handle the Mozambique conditions. Sanyati are fortunately placed to take advantage of this market in that we have expert knowledge of foundation and tower erection dating back to the huge rollout of towers for the mobile networks in South Africa and other African Countries. The construction of thousands of kilometres of pole routes, with bush clearing and the construction of servitude roads, often complicated by poor terrain or weather, rank amongst the companies achievements. With Sanyati intimate knowledge in the civil and tower construction field and access to all the specialist equipment needed to do stringing, it was a logical progression to start offering conductor stringing and line building services to the power utilities as well.
