Piling and Geotechnical

Managing Director: Gerhard van Schalkwyk

Sanyati Piling and Geotechnical specialises in geotechnical investigations, piling and lateral support, and offers this service on a full design and construct, or construct only basis. With the division’s capacity to offer this service in-house, Sanyati Holdings’ ability to secure major government and private projects has been significantly enhanced.

It is the division’s objective to grow in a sustainable, controlled way, moving into new areas geographically and broaden its product offering, and to grow the business throughout South Africa. Although the majority of the division’s turnover has been generated in KwaZulu-Natal up to now, Sanyati Piling and Geotechnical intends to grow the business by expanding the work they already do in Gauteng and the rest of South Africa, as well as moving into the other SADEC countries. It has therefore recently relocated its head office to Johannesburg.

Specialised experience

Sanyati Piling and Geotechnical traces its roots back to 1996 when it was established as specialist geotechnical and civil engineering contractors in a combined business between Mega Pile and KwaZulu-Natal Piling, which subsequently became part of the Sanyati Group.

The division has been involved in several large projects in South Africa and the following are noteworthy:

  • Galleria Shopping Centre in KwaZulu-Natal
  • Rivonia Road Bridge piling and lateral support on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project
  • Zuikerbosch Slope Stabilisation for Rand Water on the Vaal River
  • UMK Mine and Bloemfontein Intermodal Transport Hub in the Free State
  • N8 Bridge at Bloemfontein Airport
  • The Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Johannesburg
  • The Durban International Airport terminal revamp
  • Garlicke and Bousefield Head Office
  • Palmgate Residential Development at Gateway
  • The multi-million rand contract of piling the foundations for the Durban International Airport’s multi-storey car park

Constant development

Sanyati Piling and Geotechnical has expanded activities into different geographical areas and in the variety of piling and lateral support products it can offer. Although the business operates mainly in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, with contracts in the Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo, it is seeking strategic opportunities further afield in the SADEC region.

The division operates in a highly-specialised market and intends to be the most efficient piling company in South Africa. The business is developing into an excellent team of motivated and highly-skilled professionals who are able to assist in all parts of the process, offering clients the most cost-effective solution for a geotechnical foundation. To meet the exact requirements of the client, the business is further supported by superior quality control systems, sound management, financial principles and integrity.
