Sanyati Conform

Managing Director: James Cane

Sanyati Conform is a concrete sliding and slip form construction specialist and is today the leading contractor in South Africa in this specialised sector. With its more than 30 year's experience in this field, the division has continuously developed its technology and has accumulated a huge amount of experience on a wide variety of construction projects. The division’s engineering excellence and capabilities are reflected in its diversity of projects successfully completed over the years.

Solid foundation

Before becoming a separate division of the Sanyati group on 1 March 2010, Sanyati Conform was acquired by Ruthcon Civil Contractors (Pty) Limited in 2006, a civil engineering company specialising in roadworks and bulk earthworks. Sanyati then acquired 100% of Ruthcon during March 2007.

This Chloorkop-based company has come a long way since it started doing business in February 1980. Sanyati Conform has established itself as a strong and reliable brand in the construction industry providing the expertise and technical knowledge to carry out slip form construction, and is today recognised as a leader in this industry. Slip form construction is a highly specialised method of constructing silos, chimneys, reservoirs etc using a continuous concrete pour by utilising an hydraulic sliding shutter system.

The division is extremely proud of its strong position in the industry and its well-established partnerships with a variety of clients. Its areas of expertise are mainly employed in the mining and cement manufacturing sectors, including platinum, gold, coal and cement silos. With its skills and technical knowledge applied in this sector, clients include:

  • Impala Platinum;
  • Anglo Platinum;
  • AngloGold;
  • PPC;
  • NPC;
  • SASKO;
  • Eskom; and
  • Public Works amongst others.

Similarly, Sanyati Conform has developed many crucial ties with prominent industry design consultants leading to many successful projects including design and construct. This “preferred” contractor relationship gives Sanyati Conform a unique base to achieve sustainability through diverse and established markets.

Its geographical footprint covers South Africa, as well as neighbouring countries Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. This valuable division in the Sanyati group is also involved in a variety of joint ventures with other major South African construction companies on a regular basis.

Focused specialisation

With its experienced teams available to assist in all aspects of the process, Sanyati Conform provides various custom-made service packages to meet the requirements of the client, including design, planning, fabrication and supply of all specialised formwork items, hydraulic jacking equipment and technical support, to ensure correct assembly and operation of the slip form system.

The slip form technique is the fastest method of constructing tall or repetitive structures and is considerably more cost-effective when compared with the cost of conventional formwork. The name “slip form” refers to the moving form the concrete is poured into, which moves along the project as the previously poured concrete hardens below it.

Sustainable growth

Sanyati Conform is an industry leader in a highly specialised niche market, and although the business has been affected by the global economic meltdown, the division remains actively busy on a range of construction projects, with other prospects including mining projects in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.

The challenges now are to grow the business organically, to expand into new markets and to train new and existing employees equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge.
