BBBEE
Broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE)
Sanyati Holdings is a level three contributor as per the Department of Trade and Industry’s Code of Good Practice, and complies with South Africa’s BEE Codes in this regard. Empowerdex recently conducted an independent rating of the company and with its good scores on broad-based elements, the company's "A" score confirms the extent of the benefit for the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment initiatives of Sanyati.
A critical success factor of the company has been the recognition of community involvement and participation on all its contracts. Communities are consulted and informed on a regular basis. Wherever possible, skilled and unskilled workers are employed from the local communities.
The company has a strict policy that is based on:
- employing from the local community;
- attracting local entrepreneurs and sub-contractors;
- liaising with local authorities and civic organisations; and
- providing appropriate training and permanent employment, where possible, to new recruits who show potential.
It is Sanyati Holdings’ objective to obtain and maintain a high ranking amongst the top empowerment companies in South Africa, and the company has relevant internal reporting systems and structures in place to continually improve and sustain its BBBEE initiatives.
Sanyati is committed to the Codes of Good Practice on BBBEE by engaging in practices that support the upliftment of previously disadvantaged individuals in South Africa and driving the broad range of transformation requirements as set out in the Construction Charter.
To this end, a BBBEE Steering Committee, filled with senior members of the management team and led by the CEO, was constituted 18 months ago. The mandate of this team is to determine and drive the implementation of key interventions across the Group with the aim of achieving the measurable targets in each of the scorecard categories. These efforts were recognised with the achievement of our level 3 contributor status during the year.
Sanyati Holdings was rated as the 28th most empowered company on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in a survey conducted and published by the Financial Mail in April 2011. Our commitment is to ensure that we continue with the journey and achieve genuine and sustainable improvements in all categories of the Construction Charter scorecard.
